The Stud Goes in and Stays Put The stud that fits the bumper of your VW is machined from aircraft aluminum because it is both light and strong. We’ve been doing this for over a decade, so we know to cut the unique ‘Buttress’ threads to fit your Volkwagen slightly oversize versus the stock tow hook. This is why our kits do not uninstall themselves over time due to vibration from driving, and it’s also why a wrench is required for install. If the stud is only installed by hand, then the kit does not sit close enough to the bumper and the parking sensors will be triggered (this is likely why some reviewers believe it does not work with parking sensors).
