In Game 2 of the American League Division Series between the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics, there was a five run outburst in the second inning. Tim Wakefield was pitching and walked Jose Guillen with one out. After an advancement to second on a pass ball, Guillen scored on a Ramon Hernandez single. With Jermaine Dye hit by a pitch, Eric Byrne double scored both runners. After a walk and ground out, Todd Walker had an errant throw to first which cause two more runs to score on Eric Chavez’s ground ball. The Boston Red Sox scored their only run of the game in the third on back-to-back doubles by Doug Mirabelli and Johnny Damon. The Athletics won this one and were a win away from a trip to the ALCS. Alas, they lost the series 3-2. The Red Sox went on to lose the ALCS to the Yankees in the next series.Presented is a game used base pad from that very game (ALDS Game 2) which shows heavy soiling from the infield dirt.
