KNIFE MEMORABILIA IN THE MAKING Bob Terzuola’s ATCF (Advanced Technology Combat Folder) is one of the most influential knives ever created. As a matter of fact, it launched an entirely new genre of knives: tactical folders—about which Bob wrote the definitive guide nearly 20 years ago. Now, we’re making Bob’s signature design with a brand-new American tanto blade that’s ready to be put to work. This production version of the ATCF is made with premium materials—like a CPM-S35VN stainless steel blade, G-10 or carbon fiber scales, and titanium liners—and still retains some of the unmistakable elements found on the original. These details include the spine-mounted thumb disc opener and the thumb ramp that nests completely flush within the scale when closed. Also notable is the titanium pocket clip with completely hidden hardware and the subtle flipper tab for effortless deployment with each press. DON’T MESS WITH THE AMERICAN TANTO Instead of the traditional drop-point blade found on the original ATCF, our version is armed with a wicked 3.4-inch American tanto. Featuring a long, straight edge, the American tanto is excellent for push cuts and cutting on a board. Of course, like any good tanto, it has a strong tip for piercing power, and a secondary edge for added control. To keep the blade secure, the knife has titanium liners with a hardened steel lockbar insert for longevity. The handle is fitted with thick G-10 scales (or carbon fiber, if you prefer) with a dimpled texture for a solid grip. To open the knife, use the subtle flipper tab or the thumb disc—regardless, the ceramic bearings make deployment virtually effortless. Rounding out the knife is a hidden pin in place of a lanyard hole and a titanium pocket clip with no exposed hardware for a clean look. After growing up in Brooklyn and graduating from NYU, he joined the Peace Corps and worked in Panama. He then moved to Guatemala, where he trained as a jade carver and eventually began making knives for soldiers. Terzuola’s first designs were heavy-duty fixed blades for the line of duty and dense jungles of Central America. Soon, however, he saw the need for a knife with just as much utility that could be carried discreetly. The result? The first-ever tactical folding knife, made with a spine-mounted thumb disc, micarta scales, and a titanium liner lock. Later, as his career took off and his following grew, Terzuola went on to write a book on the construction of the liner-locked tactical folder. Today, he enjoys a significant following, thanks to his incomparable craftsmanship and unmistakable aesthetic.
